We went to Amsterdam for a "budget" long weekend at the end of February 1999, courtesy of American Airlines' AAdvantage air miles scheme and a good friend of Dave's with a conveniently located flat! We were last in Amsterdam in August 1997 at the end of our "Grand Tour". We were knackered after having spent the previous three weeks clocking-up over 5,000km of rail and ferry travel around northern Europe. The city was packed, and in the grip of a heatwave, with daytime temperatures reaching 35°C and not falling below 20°C at night. We didn't do very much to speak of! This time the weather was mixed, and we lost a day waiting for our luggage to be delivered, but we still had a great time.
