Berlin
We visited Berlin for the fourth time in November 2004. The first time we were there was in 1997 on the "Grand Tour". Then it was full of cranes, and it still is, but now there is also a lot to show for all that activity, including the re-modeled Reichstag, the Potsdamer Platz development, the Lehrter Bahnhof, and many other new commercial and official buildings (see the Photos page for some pictures of these).
If you are interested in architecture and urban development, Berlin really is the place to go. There is an excellent guide book available "Berlin: open city - The City on Exhibition", which we can thoroughly recommend. It is available at most bookshops, and contains maps, plans, photos and descriptions of all the redevelopment projects and a great many other important buildings. Extracts from the guide are reproduced in interactive form on the Berlin: open city website, which is well worth a look.
On these pages there are currently some on-line resources; details of the hotels we have stayed at in Berlin; some photos from 1997, 2001 and 2003; and some bookmarks. Some restaurant reviews will follow later.
