Brussels
Brussels is our favourite place for a weekend break. We've been eleven times since 1998. The Eurostar rail link through the Channel Tunnel means that it is now only 2 hours 20 minutes from London, for as little as £79 return.
We both have connections with Belgium - Andrew lived in Brussels for five years in his late teens, and Dave has family in Antwerp. So we both feel at home there. Brussels is the gastronomic capital of Europe, and Belgian beers are unparalleled, so it certainly has a lot going for it! Furthermore, Brussels remains very good value in relation to the UK.
These pages have been adapted from the ones we produced after our first trip together to Brussels in March 1998. There is an outline Journal from that trip, or you might take a look at our Photo Album. If eating and drinking in Brussels is your priority (it is certainly ours!), then go to the reviews on our Food & drink pages. There are also some on-line resources below; details of the hotel we usually stay at; some bookmarks; a notepad containing current links of interest; and a page on the 16th century flemish painter Pieter Bruegel the Elder, who is featured on these pages.
