Sun and Moon data

Use these forms to look-up data on sunrise, sunset, twilight, moon rise/set and phase etc. for any date. The general form can be used to display data for any point on the globe; the preset form has been set-up to reflect the places we have visited (or are planning to).

Preset form
This form uses the same service as the General form further down, but we have programmed-in details for over 35 cities that we have visited (or plan to visit).

All you need to do is select the city you want to look-up daylight information for, and the desired date, and click "Get data". You can also select Summer or Winter time*. The "Info" button gives information about location (latitude and longitude) and time zone for the selected city.

* In the EU, Summer-time begins on the last Sunday in March, and ends on the last Sunday in October - see www.dti.gov.uk/er/sumtimetb.htm for more information on British summer-time and EU directives.

Note: These forms have been adapted from those on the US Naval Observatory's Astronomical Applications Department website. The forms access that site's cgi script for sunrise/sunset calculations. The longitude and latitude data for the preset form was derived from the US National Imagery and Mapping Agency's GEOnet Names Server and, more recently, from the rather easier to use gazeteer at Heavens Above.

General Form
Use this form to look-up sun and moon data for any given day anywhere in the world (so long as you know the latitude and longitude).
