Pretty swish looking hotel in the centre of Helsinki. We've been itching to stay here, and for once we can afford it given their summer prices. |

Very plesant independent hotel located just south of Bulevardi between Annankatu and Frederikinkatu. Just out of the city centre proper, there is quite a lively bar scene here (the "Leningrad Cowboys" bar is in the same street). The are is also noted for the abundance of interesting turn-of-the-century (Jugendstil and national romantic) architecture, and second-hand bookshops.
The hotel itself is fully up to our standards - clean, modern and stylish, with helpful staff and a nice top-floor breakfast room that also does lunch.
We first stayed here in August 1999 on our first visit to Finland, and had a very enjoyable time. The rooms are clean, comfortable and modern, and good value in the winter season compared with many other Helsinki hotels. We stayed here again in March 2003, and our opinion remains unaltered. |

Fantastically well located four star hotel, right on the main street (Mannerheimintie) opposite the Stockmann department store. Virtually everything is within easy walking distance, and there is a tram stop just outside.
We had a very nice (and surprisingly large) room at the front of the hotel (not in the annex, which is cheaper). Two double beds and separate toilet and bathroom (which is quite unusual).
Good breakfast, and there is a (reputedly good) restaurant, bar (which is open quite late), and a coffee bar.
A lot of hotels claim to be centrally located, but this one really is at the epicentre. If you can get reasonable rates, it is well worth spending a little extra to stay here, particularly if the weather is not so good. |

Top class 4-star hotel located close to the railway station. We could only afford to stay here because their special summer rates were nearly half the normal rate.
The rooms were large (if a little dull) and comfortable, with excellent en-suite facilities. The staff were friendly and helpful (they were particularly understanding in a difficult and sensetive situation that arose during our stay). Breakfast was good, although on a couple of busy mornings it was a few minutes before we could get a freshly laid table.
Overall, excellent value for what we were paying (around £33 per person per night). |

This supposedly 3-star hotel has a good central location, but the general feel of the place to us was a bit down-market. It is marketed as a budget hotel, and is apparently popular with Russians, althought the rates do not always compare favourably with other, much nicer, hotels in the city centre (particularly during the summer).
Our room was small and, frankly, a little pokey. It was right at the end of a long and winding corridor (with lots of fire doors and short flight of steps) through what was rather reminiscient of student accommodation. Breakfast was OK, and the hotel does have a restaurant and bar (though this closed quite early). Overall, we were disappointed, and I don't think that we will be staying here again. |
