Den Gamle By
Country: Denmark City: Århus Day 4 -
Wednesday 23 July
Den Gamle By ("The Old Town") is an open-air museum consisting of
old buildings from all over Denmark. It is just a short walk from the centre of
Århus, alongside the Botanical Gardens.
It is quite extensive - 75 buildings (including a rather nice
windmill), most of which are open. It is a
fascinating place, very cleverly laid-out so that it really feels like you are
in an old town, with cobbled streets, a town square, river and millpond etc. but
we found the realisation just a little bit twee.
Unfortunately, we can't give you much more detail about the buildings as we
lost the guide book.
