Jutland - Summer 2003 A Viking Fly-Drive
Summer 2003, and another exploration of Scandinavia. This time a more intimate journey through the Jutland peninsular of Denmark, which gave us the chance to visit some of the 10th century historic sites of this birthplace of the Danish Kingdom, as well as seeing quite a bit of Jutland's very attractive countryside and coastal scenery.
Unusually for us, this was a driving tour. The last time we did this was when we spent Christmas in North Yorkshire in 1998 (although we did hire a car for a day in the Aland Islands on our first Baltic Odyssey in 1999). We actually flew to Hamburg and hired a car there (it is much cheaper than car hire in Denmark), and then drove up through Schleswig-Holstein into Denmark, then northwards all the way up through Jutland to the tip of Denmark, before making our way back south again to Hamburg. On the way we stayed overnight at a variety of hotels and the famous Danish inns which operate under Royal licence, and are to be found all over Denmark.
On these pages you can see our itinerary, details of the inns and hotels we stayed at, a number of photos, some on-line resources, and a bookmark page with lots of links and miscellaneous information that we have gathered together in planning the trip. There is also a Map page and information on some of the viking age sites we visited.
