Having researched lots of hotels in Nice (and read some very variable reviews), we concluded that the only way we could be sure to get a nice comfortable room was to go for a top-range room in an upper-middle range hotel (rather than a standard room in a top range hotel). The Masséna looked very nice, and they were offering a special Spring rate of €120 on their de-luxe "privilege" rooms (usually €145 in the winter season).
The hotel is a typical Nice "belle epoque" building, with a reasonably sized lobby, and nicely decorated. The room was OK, but fairly small, and hardly "de-luxe" (also, the bed was very short). We would normally expect better than this for 120 a night (not including breakfast), but it does seem that this is pretty standard for Nice. We are glad that we didn't go for a cheaper room!
The hotel has a very good central location, one block from the Place Massena, and only a couple of minutes walk from the old town. The seafront is no more than a 5 minute walk away. The staff were friendly and helpful, and spoke good English. |
