Nice and Monaco (February 2004) We decided to go south (Shock-horror!) for a long weekend to Nice, on the Côte d'Azur, in February 2004. It was the first time that we had been to the Mediterranean together, and although Andrew had been to Cannes a couple of times with work, neither of us was very familiar with this part of France.
We had a pleasant enough weekend, although the weather was not so good (quite cold and mostly overcast - it even snowed slightly on one day) except for our last day, when we were treated to classic eary spring Riviera weather - sunny, blue skies, warm(ish): jackets off!
Nice is quite expensive (see hotel comments), and we paid up to €6.00 for a premium Belgian beer in one bar; but we did have some excellent food. We also took a day trip by train to Monaco - a new country for us, albeit a very small one!
