The Deptford Lads in Paris Hotel le Faubourg
We stayed at the Hotel le Faubourg, which is on a bustling street just north of the Grands Boulevards, and within easy walking distance of the Gare du Nord.

The Hotel It was a fair standard for a tourist class hotel, although there was a power failure for about 20 minutes one night. The room was a slightly odd conversion (there was on odd section of wall in the room, with nothing either side, which seemed to serve no purpose other than get in the way), but had a nice large bathroom with twin washbasins. The reception staff were a little off-hand (in a french sort of way), but not unhelpful. All in all, given the package deal that we got (three nights for the price of two), it was good value for money.
Location The location of the hotel was pretty good - about ten minutes walk from the Gare du Nord, and within acceptable walking distance of most of the major Right Bank districts (including Les Halles, the Marais, the Louvre, Montmartre etc.). Two Métro stations - Poissonière and Bonne Nouvelle are within three minutes walk. The district is largely commercial - mostly small print, art & craft goods, and textiles businesses - and had a nice busy fell about it on working days. At the weekend it was considerably quieter, but there were enough tabacs and late-night stores to make it very convenient. At the bottom of the street, on the Boulevard there are cinemas and restaurants.
