Paris 1998

We've been to Paris on Eurostar for a long weekend. It was Dave's birthday, so we had something to celebrate (not that we need an excuse to go on holiday!).

We booked a package deal through Eurostar's new Eurostar Holidays Direct service. At £150 each for the return trip and 3 nights in a 2-star hotel, this was pretty good value - even better considering we took advantage of their free 1st Class upgrade offer (which meant nicer seats and a full meal with wine etc. on each journey).

Both of us had been to Paris before, but neither for some time (Andrew was last there in 1981), so we were both looking forward to getting reacquainted with this unique city. We wanted to make this a fairly relaxing and leisurely visit, so we were careful not to overdo the sightseeing. We therefore had a very limited list of things that we really wanted to see and do (apart from eating and drinking that is). These were: the Musée D'Orsay, the Grande Arche de la Défense, the Père-Lachaise cemetery and the brand new Metro Line 14 and T2 tramway. We managed to achieve these modest objectives, and take in quite a few unsuspected treats too (like the excellent map exhibition at the Bibliothèque Nationale).

Find-out about it by following the links on the left. The Journal is a good place to start, or you could skip straight to the Photo Album

Oh yes! Dave had an excellent birthday too!
