Travelogues - descriptions, pictures and accounts of our travels. This is the main body of our holiday website. For each of our "excursions" we have tried to provide at least an overview; a journal or itinerary; basic travel and accommodation details; and relevant web links. There are also lots of pictures, hotel, restaurant and bar reviews, itineraries of walks and excursions etc. (Although these sometimes take a while to write-up and get online!)
The travelogues are listed below in reverse chronological order (most recent first).
Check our News page for the latest information about where we've been and where we are planning to go next; and do please drop us a line if you think that you can help. We've also set up a Gazetteer index. For a different view of the world, try one of our Themes.
The Travelogues:
Nice Just an early spring long weekend on the Cote d'Azure. This is actually the farthes south that we have ever been together. This trip also provided an opportunity to visit a new country - Monaco. France: Nice. Monaco: Monaco, Monte Carlo. February 2004
Canada 2003 What started as a novel idea for a short break for Dave's birthday in November turned into a major trip - transcontinental, in fact! We spent three weeks travelling by train from Halifax, Nova Scotia all the way (over 4,000 miles) across Canada to Vancouver. It was not a mad dash - we broke the journey in Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto, as well as spending time at both ends. Canada: Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria. November 2003
Jutland 2003 Another exploration of Scandinavia. This time its a more intimate journey through the Jutland peninsular of Denmark, taking-in, in particular, some of the 10th century historic sites of this birthplace of the Danish Kingdom. Germany: Hamburg, Flensburg; Denmark: Kolding, Silkeborg, Rold, Aalborg, Aalbæk, Århus, Ribe, Gram. July 2003
Baltic Triangle Another trip round the Baltic by ferry. This time with our friends Dave and Rob. Sweden: Stockholm, Gothenburg. Finland: Helsinki. Estonia: Tallinn. July/August 2002
Denmark and Norway "In the wake of the Vikings" From Denmark to Oslo by ferry, then across Norway by train. A memorable trip with our friends Dave and Rob. Denmark: Copenhagen, Frederikssund, Roskilde, Helsingør. Sweden: Helsingborg, Malmö. Norway: Oslo, Fredrikstad, Bergen, Stavanger July/August 2001
Berlin We had a great return visit to Berlin in May 2001, taking advantage of Lufthansa's £90 return introductory offer (sadly, no longer available) on their new route from London City Airport to Berlin Tegel. It is still full of cranes, but now there is also a lot to show for all that activity. Germany: Berlin May 2001
Cologne We wanted to do something special for Andrew's 40th birthday, so we decided on a train trip - Eurostar and Thalys to Cologne. We also managed to fit in a rail excursion to Luxembourg, and a few hours in Brussels. Germany: Cologne, Bonn, Trier. Luxembourg: Luxembourg. Belgium: Brussels March 2001
Christmas/New Year 2000/01 We liked the idea of going away somewhere different for Christmas and New Year. We chose Scandinavia (what a surprise!), and, boy, was it different! Sweden: Stockholm, Nynäshamn, Malmö. Denmark: Copenhagen, Roskilde, Köge December 2000 - January 2001
Frankfurt Dave was unexpectedly in Frankfurt on business, so we decided to make a weekend of it. Germany: Frankfurt. December 2000
Helsinki For his 2000 birthday, Dave decided that he wanted to go back to Helsinki. And we had a particularly memorable weekend. Finland: Helsinki. November 2000
Budapest Just a short summer break in 2000 - 5 nights in Budapest. Hungary: Budapest. September 2000
Brussels Again, and again... and again! Three trips to Brussels in 2000! Eurostar gives us the chance to nip over to the gastronomic capital of Europe to celebrate Andrew's birthday in March, and then again for a long weekend in August - when we also visited Antwerp, and yet again, unexpectedly, in November. Belgium: Brussels, Antwerp March, August, and November 2000
